In 1816 Count Józef Maksymilian Ossoliński submitted the Family Establishment to the Imperial Chancellery, which was approved by Emperor Francis I in 1817. Thus the Ossolineum was founded, whose main task was to establish the Ossolineum Library. Thus, in 1817, Ossoliński bought the buildings of the church and the former convent of the Carmelite nuns. Renovation works were supervised by Józef Bem.
