and aims

The National Ossolinski Institute is a foundation with the following departments:

The Library maintains, develops, multiplies and makes available collections of Polish and Slavic humanities. Museum of the Lubomirski Princes maintains, develops, multiplies and makes available its collections of works of art and historical memorabilia. The Ossolineum Publishing House publishes books. Pan Tadeusz Museum, in turn, presents part of the collections of the Ossolineum Library and the Museum of the Lubomirski Princes, and carries out educational and popularisation activities. The Institute also conducts and supports research.

The organisational structure of the above-mentioned units of the National Ossolinski Institute is described on the subpages of these units. The organisational structure of the Institute itself is presented in the Contact tab.

The Board of Curators appoints the Director in agreement with the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The term of office of the Board of Curators is five years. The members of the Board are appointed by

Top management of the National Ossolinski Institute

Director of the National Ossolinski Institute

Dr. Łukasz Kamiński – historian. He has been in this position since 2022.

He studied and received his doctorate at the University of Wroclaw. He is an employee of the Institute of History at the University of Wroclaw. He deals with the recent history of Poland, especially the issues of opposition and social resistance to the communist regime in 1944-1989. In 2009-2011 he was director of the Office of Public Education of the Institute of National Remembrance, and from 2011-2016 he was president of the Institute of National Remembrance.

1st Deputy Director of the National Ossolinski Institute

Dr. Marek Mutor – literary scholar and historian. He has been in this position since 2022.

A graduate of the University of Wroclaw and postgraduate studies at the Academy of Cultural Leaders. Founder and director of the "Memory and Future" Centre (2007-2023), founder of the Zajezdnia History Centre in Wroclaw. Director of the National Centre for Culture Poland in Warsaw (2005-2006 and 2016).

Deputy Director of the National Ossolinski Institute for the Ossolineum Library

Dr. Dorota Sidorowicz-Mulak – literary scholar. She has been in this position since 2020.

A graduate of the University of Wroclaw and post-graduate studies in management at the University of Economics in Wroclaw. She has been working at the Ossolineum Library since 1996. She deals with the history of the Ossolineum Library's collections, research on historical book collections and antique book bindings. She is a member of the National Library Resources Council under the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish Committee of the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme, and the President of the National Provenance Working Group.

Deputy Director of the National Ossolinski Institute for the Museum of the Lubomirski Princes

Joanna Błoch – art historian. She has been in her position since 2022.

A graduate of the Institute of Art History and the Institute of Cultural Studies, a doctoral student at the Postgraduate School of Archaeology, Art and Culture at the University of Wroclaw. Research interests: museology, history of the Museum of the Lubomirski Princes, Silesian portrait prints.

Deputy Director of the National Ossolinski Institute for the Pan Tadeusz Museum

Magdalena Musiał – art historian and museum educator. She has been in her position since 2022.

A graduate of Art History at the University of Wroclaw, doctoral studies at the IHN PAN in Warsaw and journalism studies at the PAT in Krakow (now UPJPII). From 1998 to 2015 she worked at the Education Department of the National Museum in Wroclaw, coordinator of many educational projects, author of books on art for children and young people, co-founder of the Forum of Museum Educators, member of ICOM Poland since 2008. Co-creator of the educational concept of the Pan Tadeusz Museum, where she has worked since its foundation. From 2016 to 2022 she was the Head of the Education Department of the Pan Tadeusz Museum.

Editor-in-Chief of Ossolineum Publishing House

Renata Łukaszewska – editor and literary scholar. She has been in this position since 2020.

She has been connected with the book market for twelve years. A graduate of Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Wroclaw and the Polish School of Reportage. Among other things, she is involved in documentary writing.

Legal regulations

On 5 January 1995, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted an Act re-establishing the National Ossolinski Institute. Since then, the Act has been amended twice - on 11 May 2007 and on 5 July 2007 (consolidated text). As the Institute is a foundation, the rules of its operation are laid down in its Statute (in Polish). The supervision over the Institute is supervised by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
